Clarification time[]
I need to rewrite a certain paragraph in this article, but I need the exact information, so if someone can help out, that'd be great. I need a clear shot of the top of Shugo's hat and the top of Kite's hat. Shugo should have a five-pointed star while Kite should have a nine-pointed star (though I'm not sure exactly how many points are on Kite's hat... I definitely know it's more than five).--OtakuD50 17:41, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- I checked my Kite action figure, and he has a 10-pointed star. - Kuukai2 18:04, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Chibis[]
Dammit, stupid n00b. Shugo gained a chibi version of Kite. Rena gained a chibi version of BlackRose. This is true. Did you guys ever forget you could make a character shorter and taller? Compare their heights with the characters from the Games. The whole art style excuse is bullshit. It's never said that Ryo Sakuma begins to support Ann Shoji financially, but it's true, right? It's never said that Ann's dad abused her but it is shown, and it is shown that Shugo is a lot shorter than Balmung, when Kite was only slightly shorter than Balmung in the Games. The whole "If the text doesn't say it, it isn't true" thing that idiot came up with is extemely annoying. There's my arguement. Kulaguy 05:03, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Define a lot smaller? In vol.3 around the part where Shugo is about to fight Balmung, they are standing right across from eachother and shugo is less than a half a head shorter than Balmung. Also from the definition of chibi on wikipedia, either no one is chibi being taller than their one head size, or it is chibi style since they all have pretty much big eyes (except some of the more serious character because narrow eyes depicts well...seriousness)
- Use a straightedge. Subtract the hat and Shugo is a full head shorter than Balmung in that panel.--OtakuD50 18:13, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Before I before i being, check image 22 of kite on the ps2 games. That art is done by Rei Izumi (Isumi) and looks very chibi, and oh....she did that art of the manga...what a concidence esp. since that that the ps2 game's image 22 is titled "kite color". So yes, it is art style.
Plus, load up the ps2 game and invite balmung to your party. Adjust the camera when they are standing across from each other like how shugo was in the manga and subtract the hat, Kite is "STILL" one head shorter, just like how OtakuD50 claims Shugo to be. User:dot hacker sorry, im used to forums
- We have those wallpapers.

- See those speech bubbles? What are they saying? I'll tell you. The first one says "Shugo xKite" and the second one says "Rena xBlackRose." So those images are clearly of Shugo and Rena. Now you may say "well what about that x in front of 'Kite' and 'BlackRose?'" To tell you the truth, I personally don't know. But don't you go spouting a theory as fact, dig?--OtakuD50 22:58, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay, did you see the height comparison between Kite and Balmung, its the same as Shugo and Balmung. So there's that....Also the one on shugoxkite, sorry i couldnt tell what he was saying because it looks like a "mi" to me so it spelled "myuugo". I thought it was something else. So yeah check out the game's hieght comparison and see how it is the same as shugo's height compared to balmung's height. I'm also not giving any theories on this page at least, but countering the first guy's whose saying they won "chibi-versions" the text doesnt support that, neither does the art. So shut up, look at the in-game comparison, and stop calling them chibi-versions the whole art is chibi
I also understand that in the anime, silver knight and sanjuro look the same compared to shugo and rena's character who look chibi. But that is why the anime sucked and is not canon. I'm all right with saying he may have won a chibi version in the anime, but not the manga.
- Dude, can't we all agree it's just too ambigiuous to say either way? The article has been revised accordingly. All that continued debate on the chibi-or-not subject is going to do is annoy people, especially since, as I said, it's ambiguous, there's pretty much no clear-cut, well-defined answer, so there's no basis for a convincing argument one way or the other. So umm, let's just stop... ^^; - Kuukai2 23:48, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- *sigh* What was the point of this discussion, anyway? And it isn't fair to say something sucks just because it doesn't agree with you. *ahem* Anyway, it's rather pointless comparing "exact" sizes between one medium (manga) and the other (game). In the manga, Shugo and Rena are clearly chibi, though not in the super-deformed parodical sense. Their facial features and proportions are altered so they look much younger. Balmung and Wiseman don't have such alterations to their avatars. Look at the difference between Balmung in AI Buster and LotT... the only difference is his sleeves are shaded differently. That and he looks a lot happier in LotT, but that's due to character development. In short: the art style is not chibi.
- HOWEVER! It is still possible that they are not chibi versions of Kite and BlackRose, if and only if Kite and BlackRose are *supposed* to look that young. If you look at portraits of Kite and BlackRose in the beginning of the first volume, they clearly look younger than their game versions. But compare them to Shugo and Rena in the same chapter and they still look a bit older. The main difference is in the clothing. Notice how Kite's hat is erect while Shugo's is droopy. I'd comment on BlackRose and Rena as well, but Izumi chose not to show much of BR. But like Kuukai said, these observations don't really prove an answer...--OtakuD50 23:56, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I'll agree that it is too ambiguous to tell. I actually think that too many people just pay attention to the very small details (such as height) and i will admit to it too, although i did it to prove my point before i didnt care so much. So if this ends here, im happy with the way the article is written. dot hacker
- In Fragment Shugo and Rena have chibi avatars of Kite and BlackRose... go to the official Fragment website and look at them if you don't believe me. There's nothing about drawing style here, you can easily look at both of them together and see that Shugo and Rena are chibi versions. Shugo and Rena are chibi Kite and BlackRose, end of story. --CRtwenty 03:07, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- I would have said that days ago if fragment was canon, but unfortunately I don't think it can help us... - Kuukai2 03:25, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Canon or not, it's still created by the .hack developers. So I think we should consider it. --CRtwenty 04:36, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
- Semi official confirmation:
- The entire chibi gang of Legend of the Twilight is featured in this wall scroll.
- Source: http://www.altimitcorp.com/altimit/index.html?fuseaction=store.main
- It's the Udeden wall scroll. Because it's on the official BandaiNamco Rebirth site, it's semi-official, but not truly official anyways. Though, they call Shugo "Kite". Dammit. >_< Kulaguy 17:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Semi official confirmation:
- They're a third-party advertising firm that was hired by the American branch of Bandai, the one behind the easter eggs, so it's as far from canon an "official" as you can get... - Kuukai2 18:18, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Technically by Namco. Anywho, off to more investigations. Kulaguy 19:18, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Shugo IS NOT Kite![]
This is fact. Here and anywhere else on the Wiki, this is fact. Under no circumstances must you "correct" someone and say that Shugo is Kite, because that's simply not true. Shugo =/= Kite. Any questions?
- When did anybody say that Shugo was Kite? --CRtwenty 01:00, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

- I see... I'm pretty sure that's a mistranslation. Especially since he's called "Shugo" in the offline missions for Fragment, and has a different character model. --CRtwenty 23:03, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- http://dothack.wikia.com/index.php?title=Mistranslations_in_the_.hack_series&oldid=8059--OtakuD50 19:34, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- But they do have the same character models. Thats what is says in the manga. Rena they look "just like" the two .hackers and no where in the text does it say its "chibified" or anything of the sorts.
- Shugo is not Kite, but has the same player model. Remember its fiction thus not bound to earthly limitations of the "real world".
- Also, why do they keep calling it "kite's bracelet" it if its not. Izumi's notes state that the game was not complete and the anime hadn't begun in the author's notes of vol.3 so can we sure? No one says "it looks like kite's bracelet but its not". And i know it doesnt need to protect break, i understand that but a)that was a way to make the game more challenging and b) Morganna didnt need to protect break when she data drained Sora and neither did the gaurdian. In fact, neither did any of the phases need to guard break, or tri-edge. It seems Kite was the only who had to and it was really more of a game element than a story element.
Er... Protect Break is a story element. Orca was protect broken when he was DDed by Skeith. Shino's DD by Tri-Edge (Unless ROOTS shows it specifically, I've not watched it, but read summaries) was offscreen, so you don't know if there was a protect break. The Guardian doesn't use DD exactly, just something similar. What Haseo was DDed, if you listen closely when the hand-blast thing is used on him, you can hear a protect break and see the blue shards, for a brief moment. The reason, according to Hiroshi, that your party members weren't comatose in the Corbeink fight, since the Bracelet was gone, was that they WEREN'T protect broken. Morganna is, well, Morganna, so she can DD whenever she wants. That's why Drain Heart worked on everyone, and why Sora could be DDed, because she was angry with Sora. Skeith wasn't actually there until after the DD, just his wand. So, you could even say that Morganna did the DDing. PKKnoHaseo-san 12:56, 29 July 2006
