- "In this phantom city, adrift upon the sea an all new adventure awaits!"
- — Shugo —
Naval Monte (ネーベル・モント) was a root town that existed for the summer of 2014, in .hack//Legend of the Twilight. The entire city is built around a single mountain jutting out of an ocean.
Manga[]
In the Legend of the Twilight manga, the town is visited by Shugo and his party. They talk to the players there for information regarding Vagrant AIs. Mireille meets with Wiseman in a tavern there, who tells her that the information she's looking for is connected to the Twilight Incident, which occurred four years in the past. While Rena and Hotaru are found by Kamui who tells them about the Net Slum.
Anime[]
In the Legend of the Twilight anime, Naval Monte is still under development, and is inaccessible to normal players. The hackers Michi, Katsuyuki, Hayato, and Daisuke used it as a base of operations and created a field near Naval Monte where they could store the PC bodies of their coma victims. Shugo was able to reach it using his Gate Hacking ability, allowing him and his friends to combat the hackers and the Vagrant AI Morti in a battle that took place inside of the city.
Trivia[]
- The town is based on the story of Nils from the Swedish story "Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige" (The Wonderful Adventures of Nils) by Selma Lagerlöf. In the story Nils came across the city during his travels. The town was cursed to only appear from the ocean once every century, and the only way to break the curse was to buy something from one of the merchants in the town. Unfortunately Nils had no money, and the town remained cursed.
- The town's appearance is, according to the manga, based on Mont Saint-Michel, a large French chapel built on an island.
- The name could also be romanized Nebel Mond, or "Misty Moon" in German, and this may be the intended translation.
