Although Merman Spear is easily playable for a Lv. 2 weapon, its effect can give the opponent a free point. Although the chance of the opponent playing a monster card hidden on purpose is fairly low, it's generally not an acceptable risk. The more the opponent focuses on actions, the lower the risk. All in all, it's up to the player whether or not to take the risk, and depending on the deck it may be well worth it.
