An Event generally refers to any sort of special occurrence in The World or The World R:2 that differs from the usual state of affairs in the game. While events are usually created and overseen by CC Corp, there was at least one event that was run without their consent.

Events generally include mini-games like a puzzle dungeon, events related to specific holidays like the Tanabata Event, or a one-off monster encounter such as the One Sin. Most are only available for a limited time, though it is not unheard of for minor events, for example the Hero of Zeit, to be held for an undetermined period.

Notably, Balmung and his assistant Reki worked as Event Designers during the events of .hack//Legend of the Twilight, and became infamous for their unorthodox creations.

Although considered uncanonical, the online game .hack//frägment includes a number of events not seen elsewhere in the series' universe. Nevertheless, traditional seasonal events such as the Valentine's Day Event, as was introduced previously in the Legend of the Twilight series, are also present.
