A Doppelganger (ドッペルゲンガー) is a special monster in The World R:2. If a player avoids battling for long enough on a field, a darkness-shrouded Doppelganger version of that character's PC will appear and attack them. The Doppelganger will have the same amount of HP as the player, but the rest of its stats will be higher. Defeating it earns the player the event item "Own King" in Rebirth. Defeating it again in Reminisce earns the player the Broadsword "Heine's Shadow" and Dual Swords "Heine's Invasion" as well as the event item "Forgotten Shadow". Defeating it again, after the third form is unlocked earns the player the "Heine's Zero" weapon, arguably one of the best Scythes, and the event item "Moonlight Faith". Finally, defeating it in Redemption after game clear earns the player the Dual Guns "DG-0" and the event item "Bygone Servant". Collecting all the event items results in the disappearance of the event items and the acquiring of the Heavy Armor "Other Self" and the Accessory "Shadow". The Doppelganger wields the "Menacing Clash" (刃威音) series of weapons. After beating Reminisce, the player gains the keyword "Moonlight", which leads to areas where the Doppelganger is already on the field. In Redemption, Cubia creates numerous Doppelgangers of Haseo and his allies in an attempt to stop them.
